Jesuit kept its unbeaten start to the season intact with a 9-8 win over Westlake on Saturday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers earn a resounding win over one of the top teams in the state, using a key, four-goal run in the first half to derail an early rally by the Chaps.

Tommy Hovivian scored a hat trick to lead the team in scoring as senior
Billy Metz led the team with four points on the afternoon with a goal and three assists. Junior

Jack Selner finished the contest with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior
Henry Suarez closed the game with 12 faceoff wins, helping Jesuit finish the contest winning 60 percent of the faceoffs. Junior
Daniel LePino stood strong in cage, making six saves to help pick up the win.

Westlake scored 42 seconds into the first quarter to take an early, one-goal lead. Suarez would win the ensuing faceoff and find Hovivian in transition to tie the game, 1-1. The Chaps scored back-to-back tallies to take a 3-1 lead with 7:10 left in the first before the Rangers begin to harness momentum as the quarter began to wind down.

Metz fed a pass to Fernandes, who ripped a shot from the far side to cut the lead to one before Metz added his tally at the 4:11 mark to tie the game, 3-3. Metz assisted on Rose's first goal of the game, scored with 9:51 left in the second quarter to give Jesuit its first lead of the game. Hovivian scored with 8:25 left to spot the Rangers a two-goal lead, but Westlake struck with a pair of unanswered tallied to tie the contest once again with 5:04 remaining in the half. Teachout struck with 51 seconds left on a pass by Metz to send Jesuit into halftime with a one-goal lead.

Jesuit seemed poised to take the lead in the third quarter, but the Westlake defense held firm against the Rangers, turning away several long Ranger possessions before tying the game with 3:12 left in the quarter. Martin scored off a pass from Teachout with two seconds remaining in the third, providing a huge tally heading into the fourth quarter.

Rose scored two minutes into the final quarter to spot Jesuit a two-goal lead. After Westlake scored with 8:13 remaining, Jesuit was able to keep the Chaps away from the cage and the equalizer until Hovivian scored a key insurance goal at the 3:44 mark. Westlake scored with 2:17 left to cut the lead back to a single goal, but Jesuit's defense held on to clinch the victory.

Jesuit will host St. John's (Houston) on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. before a major showdown with Episcopal School of Dallas on Wednesday, Mar. 3. Jesuit's season-opening, eight-game home stand will conclude with matchups against Lake Travis (Mar. 7) and Flower Mound (Mar. 10).
