Rangers Defeat St. John's, Remain Undefeated Ahead of Wednesday Showdown With ESD

Jesuit Dallas will enter a huge Metroplex showdown with Episcopal School of Dallas unbeaten after defeating St. John's, 19-3, on Saturday. Four different Rangers scored hat tricks during a dominating performance that saw the Blue and Gold score 18 or more goals for the third time this season.

Junior Curran Rose and sophomore McAllister Hobbs led the way with four goals apiece as junior Sam Teachout and senior Billy Metz recorded hat tricks. Senior Connor Legg and junior Henry Suarez scored two goals each as Suarez additionally won nine of 11 attempted faceoffs. Junior Mason Chandler won 11 faceoffs and secured seven ground balls as freshman Cameron Martin finished the game with four points off of three assists and a goal. Senior Rob Williamson made four saves in the cage to secure his second win of the season.

Jesuit secured 35 ground balls compared to nine recorded by the Mavericks as the Rangers disrupted seven of St. John's 17 clear attempts while converting 28 of 31 attempted clears. St. John's was limited to 13 shots, only seven of which were on cage, and were only given two man-up opportunities.

The Rangers opened the game with four unanswered goals as Hobbs started the scoring at the 10:40 mark. Back-to-back unassisted goals by Metz and Suarez at the 2:31 and 2:22 mark, respectively followed Rose's first tally of the game to send Jesuit into the second quarter with a 4-1 lead.

Jesuit took the game over after the St. John's goal with 1:23 remaining in the first, rattling off 11 unanswered goals to take a 15-1 lead with 5:09 left in the third quarter. Martin assisted on three of the goals, but the Ranger offense scored eight unassisted tallies to take the commanding lead. St. John's scored with 3:01 left in the third, but Jesuit built a 19-2 lead with four more unanswered goals to carry a 17-goal lead deep into the fourth quarter.

On Wednesday, Jesuit Dallas and ESD will clash in a rematch of last year's THSLL Division I State Semifinal. Regarded as one of the top rivalries in Texas, the Rangers and Eagles have had six of their last seven matchups be decided by one goal, and the last two regular season showdowns were decided in double overtime.

Jesuit defeated ESD in last year's regular season matchup, besting the Eagles, 8-7, in a double overtime game that took place over two days due to a lightning delay. ESD ended Jesuit's season last May with a 5-4 win in the state semifinal en route to capturing the THLL State Championship with a win over Highland Park. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Postell Stadium.
