Game Recap: Hockey - Varsity Gold |

Rangers Unable to Topple Flower Mound's First Period

Junior Santiago Diaz scored two goal for the Rangers, but three game-opening, unanswered goals by Flower Mound put Jesuit behind early in an 8-4 setback on Thursday at the StarCenter in Richardson. Four different members of the Bllue and Gold found the scoresheet for Jesuit, who head into the final four games of the season following Thursday's setback.

Diaz picked up his seventh and eighth goals of the season on Thursday, continuing a stretch of six games that has seen the junior light the lamps seven times. Diaz's second multi-goal game of the year was complimented by sophomore Ryan Virkar, who netted his third goal of the season in the first period, and added an assist to tie Diaz for the team lead in points. Senior Miles Dikun scored his third goal of the year as juniors Jack Sweda, Derek Zhang, sophomores Charlie Cohen and William Sahadevan added assists. Senior goalkeeper William Carney picked up 29 saves in goal as the Rangers withstood 37 shots from Flower Mound and went 3-for-4 in penalty kill opportunities.

Jesuit will return to the ice on Thursday, Jan. 28 to take on Plano West. The final three games of the season will include road matchups against McKinney on Feb. 4 and Mansfield on Feb. 18 as the Blue and Gold will host senior night on Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Richardson StarCenter against Keller.
