Rangers Rally Late, Stun No. 8 McKinney in Area Round

Jesuit Dallas is headed to its fourth regional quarterfinal in five years following a stunning, 64-60 upset victory over No. 8-ranked McKinney on Thursday at Coppell H.S. Facing a seven-point deficit with 4:33 left in the fourth quarter, the Rangers closed the contest with an 11-0 run, including 10 clutch points from senior guard Cal Linn.

The reversal of fate began when McKinney's Devin Vincent buried a three-pointer to give the Lions a three-possession lead. Linn's first two points came off of a missed bucket by senior Gavin Perryman as Linn skied in for the rebound and put-back. Neither team scored over the following two minutes, bringing the tension inside Coppell H.S. to a boiling point as the Rangers brought the ball down the court with two minutes left in regulation. Linn hit a three-pointer at the 1:45 mark to cut the lead to two, then recorded a steal to give the ball back to the Rangers before burying a corner three to give Jesuit the one-point lead with 1:03 left to go.

Linn converted a layup to increase the lead to three, and a drawn charge by senior Conor Moore gave the Rangers possession with 21 seconds remaining. McKinney missed the game-tying three-point attempt, and senior Camden Roy secured the rebound before getting fouled. With 1.9 seconds on the clock, Roy converted his first free throw to ice the unprecedented upset victory.

Shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 6-of-10 from behind the three-point line, Linn closed out the contest with 25 points on the night. Moore scored 14 points and collected 13 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year. Perryman scored 11 points but racked up a career-high nine assists. The Rangers' leading scorer drew plenty of attention from the McKinney double team and was able to find the open shooter for critical buckets down the stretch.

Junior Ben Johnson scored seven points, Roy tacked on three points while senior Shane Hatzmann and sophomore Dylan Gibbons each scored two to complete the team's score sheet. McKinney's Ja'Kobe Walter, the No. 14 overall prospect in the Class of 2024 according to 247Sports.com, scored 22 points but was held to only four points in the second half. Jesuit scored 20 points in the paint, out-rebounded McKinney 33-26, and stayed out of foul trouble, only committing six fouls throughout the duration of the contest.

The Rangers will now turn their attention to a familiar foe in Lake Highlands. The Wildcats upset state-ranked No. 22 Coppell, 53-50, on Thursday night to set-up a rematch between district rivals that split their regular season series. The time, date and location for the regional quarterfinal matchup has yet to be determined.
