Hat Tricks by Teachout, Vlasimsky Fall Short as Scots Sneak Past Rangers

A hotly anticipated matchup in an electric Postell Stadium environment pit two of the top teams in Texas against one another as Jesuit Dallas and Highland Park met for the first of two matchups this season. Jesuit Dallas leapt out to a 2-0 lead, but Highland Park harnessed control of the matchup in the third quarter, holding off the Rangers down the final stretch of the game to hand Jesuit an 11-9 loss on Thursday.

Senior Sam Teachout recorded his first hat trick of the season, scoring the first two goals of the game before completing the feat the third quarter. Fellow fourth year Caiden Vlasimsky picked up a hat trick of his own, scoring twice in the second before adding a goal during the fourth quarter rally. Junior McAllister Hobbs finished the contest with goals in the second and fourth quarter while senior Curran Rose completed the team's scoresheet with a tally in the fourth.

Junior goalkeeper Connor Knight helped keep the Rangers within striking distance with several highlight-reel saves during the game, including a point-blank stick save in the fourth quarter that helped spark the Jesuit rally.  Knight finished the game with 15 saves, including seven saves in the first quarter and five in the fourth.

The Rangers' defensive unit, anchored by seniors Tristan Hassell, Alex Chen alongside sophomores Charlie Metz and Tyler Gazzam, pressured the Scots and forced low-percentage shots, but Highland Park was able to convert on those difficult opportunities during a four-goal third quarter that shifted momentum in favor of the visitors. Chen led the team with two caused turnovers and six ground balls while senior Matthew Isbell picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.

Jesuit will hit the road on Friday, as the Blue and Gold will play three games over the weekend in Tennessee and Kentucky. The Rangers will open the weekend against Christian Brothers (Tenn.) at 5 p.m. on Saturday, take on national powerhouse Culver (Ind.) in Louisville on Sunday and finish out the run against Trinity (Ky.) on Monday. Jesuit returns to Postell Stadium on Thursday, Mar. 25 to take on Coppell.
