For the second time in three seasons, Jesuit Dallas will represent the State of Texas at the USA Hockey High School National Championships as the three-day tournament is set to begin on Thursday in Omaha, Nebraska. Heading into the national stage on a four-game winning streak, the Rangers are playing their best hockey of the season as they prepare to take on a stacked pool of national competitors.
Â
The Rangers will open the tournament on Thursday, April 15 when the Blue and Gold will open their tournament run against Pope Francis Prep (Mass.) at 12:15 p.m. Jesuit's second game of the tournament will take place at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 16 when the Rangers clash with Orange Lutheran (Calif.) before Jesuit ends its tournament run against North Broward Prep (Fla.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
Jesuit captured the seventh state championship in program history with a two-game series win over Allen in the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure State Tournament. In the best-of-three series, Jesuit picked up a 7-2 win over the Eagles on Mar. 4 before punching their ticket to nationals with a 6-4 victory on Mar. 29.
Â
Senior
Seth Dragojevic currently leads the team with 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists, but is followed close behind by junior
Santiago Diaz, who has racked up 13 goals and 13 assists to enter the tournament with 26 points. Dragojevic has been on a tear during the team's four-game winning streak, racking up 13 points, including five goals, to lead the team. Diaz also has five goals to his credit while junior
Jack Sweda, sophomore
Kyle Hogan and freshman
Charlie McCarthy have each recorded three goals during the team's streak.
Â
The Ranger first line of Diaz, Dragojevic and McCarthy was immensely efficient during the team's Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) state championship run against Allen, as seven of the 13 goals of the series came from one of those three skaters. Senior
William Carney gathered momentum in net, recording 49 saves over the two games while pushing his total on the year to 375 stops between the pipes.
Â
Jesuit Dallas has won three straight TAHA State Championships but enters its second national tournament in three years as the 2020 tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jesuit will battle Pope Francis, Orange Lutheran and North Broward Prep in hopes of advancing out of pool play and into the final bracket, which is set to begin on Sunday, April 18 and conclude with the championship round on Apr. 19.
