Alec Rahlfs pushed Jesuit Dallas to a 3-1 win over Orange Lutheran (Calif.), helping the Rangers rebound from a loss to Pope Francis Prep (Mass.) on Friday morning in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dragojevic, who scored Jesuit's lone goal in the tournament opener against Pope Francis, added his second goal of the tournament 4:36 into the opening period off of passes by freshman
Charlie McCarthy and junior
Santiago Diaz. Orange Lutheran tied the game 1-1 with 1:38 remaining in the first, sending the game into the second period with a 1-1 tie. In the second, Lutheran cranked up the heat on the Jesuit Dallas defense with 16 shots, but the Rangers kept the tie intact until McCown sent a wrist shot past Lutheran netminder Caleb Martinez for a 2-1 lead with 6:18 left in the period.
Jesuit's defense stood tall once again in the third period, turning away 11 Lutheran attempts and setting the stage for Rahlfs to put away the game with a late power play goal. The Rangers secured their second power play of the game, the first being McCown's go-ahead tally, with 1:29 left in the game to lock down the victory.
Senior
William Carney currently ranks second in the tournament with 52 saves over two games, including 46 saves against Orange Lutheran. Carney's Friday morning performance marks the most saves recorded by a Ranger in a single game since Oct. 27, 2013 when
George McBey recorded 46 stops in league play against Frisco.
The Rangers will take on North Broward Prep (Fla.) tomorrow in their final game of pool play. A win and Orange Lutheran loss would send Jesuit to the championship bracket, while an Orange Lutheran win over current division leader, combined with a Jesuit victory, would result in goal differential deciding who advances to the single-elimination round. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Ralston Arena.
