Jesuit's 4x200 meter relay team set a new school record for the second time this season, and Jesuit Dallas dominated the field to secure the District 7-6A & 8-6A Area Championship title on Saturday at C.H. Wilemon Field in Arlington, Texas.
The 4x200 team, which includes senior
Max McFarland, junior
Patrick Bennett, junior Ford Butler and junior
Thomas Wray, broke the tape in 1:28.75 to win the event by a half-second. That time bests the previous record of 1:29.32, recorded by the same foursome earlier this season at the 2021 Jesuit-Sheaner Relays, and sends the team to regionals with another huge victory in tow. The Rangers would additionally qualify for regionals in the 4x100 meter relay with another historic performance, as Wray, McFarland, senior
Charlie Clements and junior
Cole Younger ran a 42.30. That shaved 0.14 off of their district time and advancing past South Grand Prairie by 0.18 seconds, and matched a  52-year old school record, set in 1969.Â
Bennett would also win the 300 meter hurdles, completing the event in 39.25, narrowly missing his personal best time recorded in 2020 but setting a new season best en route to his fourth straight meet win in the event. Senior
Ryan Schurr earned a regional bid with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.32 to edge out Lake Highlands' Tyler Traylor by 0.09 seconds. Junior
Enrique Borrego swept the distance events once again, capturing the area title in the 3200 meter run with a 10:08.41 before crossing the finish line in 4:30.03 to win the 1600 meter run. Senior
Henry Domine punched his ticket to regionals by finishing second in the two-mile with a 10:14.21, and also qualified for the 1600 with a third-place, 4:38.07.Â
In field events, junior
Richard Hambleton punched his ticket to regionals with a second place finish in the pole vault. Hambleton cleared the bar at 11'6'', besting the field by 18 inches. Junior
Grant Kostos earned his way to regionals by clearing 5'8'', junior
Carson Walls finished third in the long jump with a jump of 20'11'', and junior
Lucas Hernandez tossed a 47'8.75'' in the shot put to be the last qualifier in the event.
Saturday's Area Championship is the first in program history, as Jesuit scored 121 team points to win the championship by 26 points over Arlington Bowie. The Rangers continue their upward momentum after capturing the programs' first district title in five years last weekend.
