Jesuit's junior class shined once again as Ranger third year
Jake Storey threw a one-hitter while classmates
Myles Tucker and
Tommy Delaney drove in three runs apiece, helping Jesuit Dallas sweep Arlington with a 14-0 win on Saturday at Wright Field. The series sweep sets the Rangers up for a UIL Area Round showdown against Coppell next week.
Â
Tucker closed out a stellar game 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, while Delaney got the Rangers on the scoreboard with a single in in the second before adding a triple in the fourth on a 3-for-3 day from the plate. Storey carried a no-hitter 4.1 innings before giving up a lofted single down the left field line, ending the contest with five strikeouts and two batters off the minimum.
Â
Senior
Drew Messick finished his strong week with two hits and two RBI while junior
David Long added a pinch hit RBI double. Seniors
Jordan Lawlar,
Gardner Lawrence and
Jack Mason each drove in a run to complete the Jesuit scoring.
Â
With Saturday's win, the Rangers conclude an eyebrow-raising two-game set against the Colts. Jesuit hit .521 during the two games, slugged .750 as a team and finished the series with a 1.350 OPS. Senior
Tucker Huhn, who won game one, combined with Storey for a 0.00 earned run average, held Arlington to a .086 team batting average and struck out nearly one-third (12-of-38) of the total batters faced.
Â
Jesuit, ranked fifth according to the
Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and fourth in the final
Dallas Morning News Area Rankings, will next face off against a Coppell team that is ranked seventh in the area. The Cowboys are 26-7-1 and swept Denton Guyer in two games to earn their way into the area round. The times, locations and dates for next weekend's series have yet to be determined.
