Tom Scott' 08 Tokyo Bound, Named to Historic USA Karate Roster

Jesuit Dallas alumni Tom Scott '08 is headed to Tokyo to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games as a member of the USA Karate team. Scott, a decorated Karateka regarded as one of the top fighters in the world, was named to Team USA on June 29 and will compete in karate's Olympic debut.
 
Scott is the first Jesuit Dallas student-athlete to earn an invitation to the Olympics. The 2020 Jesuit Dallas Sports Hall of Fame inductee brings an impeccable list of career accolades to Tokyo, as Scott is the two-time defending Kumite 75 kg gold medalist at the Pan American games, a 15-time national champion, 10-time USA Open Champion and six-time Pan American Champion.
 
Currently ranked sixth in the world, Scott is a five-time USA Karate Male Athlete of the Year, one of only two Americans to ever earn a gold medal in kilo and open weight categories, and the first American to earn to be ranked No. 1 in the World Karate Federation rankings. He will aim to secure his 37th career medal in Tokyo when he competes in the men's kumite -75 kg competition on Friday, August 6.
 
Scott's Olympic run will start at 3 a.m. CST on Friday, Aug. 6 with the elimination round and will continue until the gold medal bout at approximately 7:40 a.m. CST. All karate bouts will take place at the famous Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, a martial arts hall originally built for the 1964 Summer Olympics.
