Nick Hinkley Named Jesuit Dallas Hockey Head Coach

9/10/2021 3:42:00 PM

Jesuit Dallas athletic director Steve Koch has announced Nick Hinkley as the new head coach of the Ranger hockey program, and Hinkley will join the Rangers as the team enters the AT&T Metroplex Hockey League Leveling Tournament this upcoming weekend.

"Nick is an excellent addition to our staff," commented Koch, "and I am looking forward to see him continue to push our hockey program to new heights. His experience in the sport of hockey is undeniable, and I look forward to seeing that experience translate to success on the ice for our student-athletes."

Hinkley takes over as the lead of the Jesuit Dallas hockey program with a multitude of experience as a player and coach. A former coach in the Washington D.C. area, Hinkley was a travel coach as part of the Capitals Academy and served as the head coach at Yorktown High School. During that time, Hinkley practiced at the Kettler Ice Arena, which also served as the practice facility for the Washington Capitals. Upon arriving in the Metroplex, Hinkley served as the assistant coach for Highland Park.

"I'm excited to join Jesuit's already storied athletic tradition," added Hinkley. "The staff and I intend to lead Jesuit Dallas hockey to becoming the premier High School program in Texas that not only continues its winning tradition, but also ushers our student-athletes to higher levels of hockey, education and service. While hockey continues to grow in Texas, Dallas Jesuit will lead the way and games will be a can't miss event for students, families, and the community."

As a player, Hinkley played AAA hockey for the Indianapolis Checkers, played at the prep hockey level in Indiana and Vermont, and finished his playing career by playing hockey at the U.S. Naval Academy for two seasons.

Hinkley will join a Jesuit Dallas program that has excelled over the past three seasons. In 2021, Jesuit Dallas captured its third straight Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) state championship with a two-game series win over Allen. The Rangers would make a splash at the USA Hockey National Tournament, picking up a win over Orange Lutheran (Calif.) to earn the program's first appearance in the knockout stage.

Jesuit will begin the leveling tournament at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11 against Frisco East. The Rangers' second contest will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 against Frisco West before Jesuit finishes the three-game leveling tournament schedule at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday against Flower Mound. The first regular season game is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, beginning an 18-week schedule that will finish in mid-February.
