Jesuit Dallas secured third place in the 41st Annual Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational with a 7-6 penalty kick victory over McKinney on Saturday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers secured the victory following a 2-0 setback to Rowlett in the tournament semifinal on Friday.
In Saturday's third-place game, Jesuit and McKinney battled to a 0-0 tie after regulation. The Rangers were out-shot, 11-5, but junior goalkeeper
Cole Hines and senior goalkeeper
Christian Rodriguez secured two saves apiece to keep the Lions off the scoreboard. In penalties, conversions were finished by senior
Andrew Reutinger, junior
James McCrea, Hines, junior
Erwin Ordaz, senior
Brendan Shorey and junior
Charlie Bramlett, but McKinney continued to answer Jesuit's converted attempts to keep the penalties tied.
Junior
Cole Frutos launched Jesuit's ninth penalty, a ricochet off the far post that curled in for the go-ahead penalty that proved to be the decider as Hines made a stellar kick save on McKinney's final penalty attempt to clinch the win.
Senior Arnold Perez scored his first goal of the season against Rowlett, taking a feed from sophomore
Matthew Sucato and launching a ball past the Eagles' keeper in the 68th minute to cut into the Eagles' 2-0 lead. Jesuit out-shot Rowlett, 6-3, and secured three corner kicks while the Ranger defense did not yield a corner kick to Rowlett.
Jesuit will return to action on Friday, Jan. 14 against Trinity Christian Academy. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. from Postell Stadium.
