Jesuit Finishes Pool Play Unbeaten Following Saturday Shutout

1/23/2022 8:53:00 PM

Jesuit secured a convincing, 3-0 win over Strake Jesuit on Saturday at the Valley Ranch StarCenter, securing momentum heading into a rematch of the two teams for the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure State Championship on Sunday. The Rangers finish pool play of the TAHA Tournament with a 2-0 record and will be the top seed in tomorrow's title bout as Jesuit aims to secure its fourth consecutive state championship with a win over the Crusaders.

Senior Charlie Cohen opened the scoring for the Rangers with an early first period goal, taking the puck from center ice, splitting the defenders and firing a wrist shot past the Crusaders' netminder for an early lea. Junior Kyle Hogan added a goal in the second period off of a pass by senior Alec Rahlfs before senior Jack Sweda scored a power play goal midway through the second off of a feed by freshman Danny Myung. Junior goalkeeper Drew Zang picked up his second shutout of the tournament with a 15-save performance, following a strong outing against Allen with his second straight clean sheet.

Jesuit and Strake will meet again on Sunday morning in the TAHA Division I Pure State Championship game. It will serve as the fourth matchup of the year between the two teams, as the Rangers and Crusaders split a regular season series over Thanksgiving weekend prior to Saturday's matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at the Valley Ranch StarCenter.
