Career Performances Fall Short Against State-Ranked Wildcats

Senior Ben Johnson matched a career high with 22 points, but Jesuit dropped a 75-62 bout to state-ranked No. 9 Lake Highlands on Friday in Dallas. Jesuit saw an additional double-digit performance from senior Sky Tschurr but were unable to topple an efficient Wildcat offense that shot above 55.3 percent from the floor and 58.8 from three-point range on the night.

Johnson converted 9-of-16 shots from the field and hit four three-pointers, adding two assists and a steal. Tschurr buried four three-pointers of his own while junior Dylan Gibbons led the team with seven assists, marking the eighth time this season that the Rangers' point guard has secured five or more assists in a game Gibbons added eight points to the team total, senior Will Mansour scored seven, senior Ryan McCormick added five while seniors Grant Kostos, Quinn Mashburn, junior Owen Berry and fellow third year Michael Mathie each scored a basket.

The Rangers shot 47.9 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Lake Highlands, 27-20, but 16 turnovers hampered the Rangers' efforts against a Lake Highlands squad that were ranked fourth in the most recent Dallas Morning News area rankings.

Jesuit will return to the hardwood on Feb. 1, when the Blue and Gold travels to Irving to battle the MacArthur. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. as the Rangers will look to sweep the season series from the Cardinals. The Rangers will return to Postell Stadium on Friday, Feb. 4 to battle Nimitz.
