Jesuit's varsity bronze team secured championship honors with a 3-1 record at the 2022 Capital City Invitational Tournament, held on Nov. 25-27 in Springfield, Virginia at The St. James Arena.
Andrew Theisen and
Everett Sahadevan scored for Jesuit in the Rangers' 3-2 setback to Bishop O'Connell to open the tournament schedule before rebounding for a 5-3 victory over Archbishop Spaulding. In that contest,
Liam Placke racked up a hat trick, Victor Laos scored a goal, and
Travis Hogan added a tally of his own. Assists were recorded by Laos,
Allen Zhang,
Ewan Randles and
Asher Yarbrough.
Jesuit punched its ticket into the final with a 3-1 win over DeMatha. Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Jesuit rattled off three tallies, scored by
Thomas Fino, Yarbrough and Theisen. Fino and
Travis Hogan would add assists to the Ranger total.
The Rangers' run ended in the championship game against Bishop O'Connell, which saw the varsity bronze team secure a 2-1 victory to avenge their loss in the tournament opener.
Gage Gutierrez cored Jesuit's first goal of the contest on a feed from Victor Laos before
Mitchell Zenick scored the game-winner with 7:21 left in the third.
In the prep division, the Jesuit Dallas varsity gold team secured a 1-3 record. Jesuit began its run with a 5-4 setback to O'Connell, with senior
William Sahadevan leading the way with two goals,
Kyle Hogan adding a tally of his own alongside goals from
Konstantin Deshevyy and
Charlie McCarthy. Sahadevan, McCarthy and
Chris Sweda added assists.
Sweda,
Everett Sahadevan and
Wade Bryan added goals in Jesuit's 6-3 setback to Georgetown Prep on Nov. 26, with assists attributed to
Allen Zhang,
Noah Pinkall and Fino. Jesuit's second loss of pool play come on a 4-3, shootout setback to Yorktown.
Jackson Deininger and Deshevyy assisted on a McCarthy goal in the second period to split an early 2-0 deficit in half, before tallies from Deininger and Deshevvy in the third period tied the game and sent it to the extra session. Jesuit was held scoreless in the shootout as Yorktown edged the Rangers with one converted penalty. The Rangers ended their tournament run with an 8-2 setback to St. John's in the third place game of the prep bracket, with Bryan and Sweda scoring goals on respective assists from Deshevyy and McCarthy.
