Cohen's Game-Winner Sends Rangers to Knockout Stage for Second Straight Year

3/27/2022 10:41:00 AM

Senior Charlie Cohen broke a scoreless tie with 11:25 remaining in the third period, providing the game-winning goal for Jesuit Dallas in a 2-0 win over Edwardsville (Mo.) that sent the Rangers to the knockout stage of the 2022 USA Hockey High School National Championships. The Rangers will take on Pinnacle (Ariz.) in the tournament quarterfinals at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, Mar. 27.

Cohen's tally was a power-play goal assisted by junior Chris Sweda. Moments later, Freshman Konstantin Deshevyy scored his third goal of the tournament, assisted by freshman Danny Myung and junior William Sahadevan, to give the Rangers a critical insurance goal in the final period.

Junior goalie Andrew Zang recorded 31 saves in goal during the game, earning his first shutout in the national tournament while helping the Rangers to their second straight win, the first time that a Jesuit team has picked up two wins at the national tournament since the 2015 season.
