Jesuit Dallas hockey once again proved its mettle at the highest level, advancing to the knockout stage of the 2022 USA Hockey High School Tournament for the second straight year after punching its first ever ticket to the quarterfinal in 2021. The Rangers' 2021-22 season drew to a conclusion following a 3-0 loss to Pinnacle (Ariz.) on Sunday in Plano, Texas as the Jesuit Dallas hockey team wrapped another succcessful campaign that saw the program win its fourth straight Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Pure State Championship.
The Rangers withstood a multitude of penalties, killing off nine of 10 man-up chances by Pinnacle. However, a goal early in the second period broke a scoreless tie and gave momentum to the squad out of Phoenix, Arizona. Another tally in the waning moments of the period proved to be a critical insurance goal for Pinnacle, which had to kill off four power play chances by the Rangers in the third period. Pinnacle added a power-play goal with 2:56 remaining in the third for the final total.
Jesuit captured the eighth state championship in program history during the first season under the leadership of new head coach
Nick Hinkley. The Rangers clinched the state championship with a 5-1 win over Strake Jesuit on January 23. The 2022 USA Hockey National Tournament also marked the first time since 2014 that the Rangers won multiple games in pool play, as Jesuit upended Walter Johnson (Md.), 8-1 on Mar. 25 before toppling Edwardsville (Mo.), 2-0, in a win that propelled Jesuit into the knockout stage.
