Game Recap: Lacrosse - Class A |

Foley Scores Seven, Rangers Race Past Austin and Punch Ticket to Championship Weekend

Sophomore Beckett Foley erupted for seven goals as top-seeded Jesuit Dallas used two massive scoring streaks to eliminated eighth-seeded Austin H.S., 15-5, in the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Class AA Quarterfinal on Saturday at Ranger Stadium. Jesuit will now advance to play either St. Mark's or Southlake Carroll in the state semifinal, a matchup that will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Foley's seven-goal performance marks the second time this season that a Ranger scored seven times in a single game. Senior McAllister Hobbs scored seven in Jesuit's regular season showdown against Austin H.S., a matchup that the Rangers captured, 17-7. Hobbs added four goals of his own in the quarterfinal, junior Charlie Schmidt tacked on two goals as the senior tandem of Nate Duncan and Charles Moran secured one goal apiece to wrap the Ranger scoring column. Senior Charlie Metz and Foley added two assists each.

Senior Will Reading won 22-of-24 face-off attempts, setting a new career high while adding two assists and keeping the turf tilted towards the Rangers for most of the afternoon. Reading, who also picked up a career-high 17 ground balls, helped usher an offense that broke off a 7-0 scoring run with the contest tied 2-2 in the second quarter, then helped spark a 6-0 run in the third that put the game out of reach.

In goal, senior Connor Knight recorded seven saves, including three saves in the second half to keep the Rangers' unanswered scoring run intact. Senior Tyler Gazzam caused two turnovers as senior Jack Emery, junior Michael Mathie and junior Billy Robertson caused one turnover apiece.

With Jesuit's victory, half of the THSLL Final Four has been filled as the top-seeded Rangers and second-seeded Episcopal School of Dallas Eagles held their seeding and advanced to Dripping Springs. The other two spots will go to the winner of the St. Mark's/Southlake game, and the winner of tonight's matchup between second-seeded Highland Park and seventh-seeded The Woodlands.
