Jesuit Football Falls on Last-Minute Touchdown

10/5/2024 11:57:00 AM

Jesuit fell to 1-1 in District 7-6A play on Friday, as J.J. Pearce emerged from a wild, back-and-forth showdown with a last-minute touchdown to secure a 48-42 win over the Rangers at Eagle-Mustang Stadium.

The matchup featured 1,067 total yards between the two teams, highlighted by a true quarterback duel between two stellar quarterbacks. Senior Charlie Peters completed 25-of-42 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns, adding a team-leading 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Seniors Blake Bodnar and Jaeger Krauss caught touchdown passes as junior Harlan Beucler made a major splash, catching three passes for a team-leading 94 yards. Junior Shane Parker finished the bout with a team-high nine catches for 44 yards. Senior Henry Bourret returned to the lineup and scored a touchdown in the ground, adding three receptions for 22 yards.

Defensively, senior Cade Gill racked up 13 tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, pass breakup and quarterback hurry to pace the Rangers. Senior Julien Bird picked up 12 tackles and senior Robert Prager caught a massive interception in the fourth quarter that stymied a go-ahead drive for Pearce. Prager also forced a fumble that was recovered by the Rangers, as senior Kane Murray and junior Gabriel James each recovered fumbles for the Rangers. Senior Noah McGough went 6-for-6 in extra point attempts, and recorded touchbacks on all seven of his kickoffs.

Jesuit will face a quick turnaround as the Rangers will battle Lake Highlands on Thursday, October 10 at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. The Wildcats are 2-0 in district play following a 31-0 win over MacArthur. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m, and the game will be broadcast locally on CW33.
