SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Jesuit Ice Hockey team defeated Providence Catholic (Ill.), 5-2, to win the Hoosier Cup at the Compton Family Ice Arena on Monday.
The Rangers went 4-1 in the event, with a 3-2 semifinal win over St. Edwards (Ohio) before the come-from-behind win in the championship. Providence went ahead 2-0 before Jesuit scored three times in the second period to gain control.
Jesuit went 2-1 in pool play on Saturday and Sunday to advance to the semifinals. They Blue and Gold defeated Calvert Hall (Md.), 5-2, fell to St. Joseph's (Ind.), 7-5 and beat Bishop O'Connell (Va.), 7-0.
Jesuit is now 11-3 on the season and will return to action in the AT&T Metroplex Hockey League on Wednesday night against Birdville. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Euless StarCenter.
