DALLAS - The Jesuit Dallas rugby team scored on two of its first four possessions against Faith Family Academy and then held off a late rally for a 24-17 victory in the opening round of the Rugby Texas Varsity Cup at Ranger Stadium on Tuesday.

Alec Ramon had a try on the Rangers' first possession just 2 minutes into the game. After each team turns it over, Jesuit had possession again and saw Mason Moore streak down the sideline for a long score. Ramon added the conversion and the Rangers led 12-0. FFA got a try without a conversion just before halftime to cut the margin to 12-5 at the break.

With just under 20 minutes to go, Jesuit extended the lead to 19-5 when Dean Gafford crossed the line and Ramon made the conversion. But the Eagles didn't go away, scoring two minutes later to comtinue to put the pressure on the Rangers.

Jesuit added an insurance score with  less than five minutes on the clock as Miles Hendricks took a pitch from 25 yards out and went untouched past the goal line.

FFA scored and converted the try in the final minute but Jesuit was able to kick the ball away to end the game.

Jesuit (7-6) will meet the winner of Celina and HEB Rugby next week in the semifinals.
