WHAT ARE THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH BEING A MEMBER OF THE JESUIT CREW TEAM?
Contact
jesuitcrewdallas@gmail.com for costs. If you need financial assistance, reach out to Jesuit Dallas athletic director Steve Koch (
skoch@jesuitcp.org).
HOW LONG DOES THE ROWING SEASON RUN?
The fall season lasts until mid-November. The team practices on the water until December. The winter season is indoors and takes place at Jesuit, culminating in a Jesuit-sponsored erg event in February. Water practices begin again at the end of February and last until early May.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A REGATTA?
It depends on the season, fall or spring. During a fall regatta, races are around 3-miles long. The races last between 12-16 minutes. Fall races are called "Head Races" during which boats are started at 5-10 second intervals. Total time and finishing place are tallied at the end. In the spring, races are between 1000-2000 meters. Boats raced side-by-side and winners are determined by inches.
WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING A REGATTA AS A PARENT?
Give your son space to be with his teammates before and after the races. Jesuit athletes will rest and prepare in the Jesuit tent prior to a race. After a race, athletes will meet with their coach to discuss the race and then de-rig and load their boat. When the boat is loaded on the trailer, Jesuit athletes are free to go and mingle with parents and spectators. Please respect these guidelines as you cheer on Jesuit and your son.
DO WE HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO INDICATE TO THE SCHOOL THAT THEIR SON IS PARTICIPATING IN CREW?
The boys should sign up their interest during Orientation and also let their counselors know. They can also contact Coach Eli Brown at
ebrown@jesuitcp.org directly with questions and to be added to the roster.
DOES CREW PRACTICE EVERY DAY?
Please contact coaches for the most up to date information regarding practice schedules.
