Mike Grimes '86

Grimes begins his 11th season with Jesuit Dallas after a four-year stint at Thomas Jefferson High School. Inducted into the Jesuit Dallas Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, Grimes was a stellar baseball student-athlete for the Rangers from 1983-86 as a three-time TCIL First Team All-State and two-time All-Metro selection.

After graduating from Jesuit Dallas, Grimes was drafted in the 20th round of the 1986 MLB Amateur Draft by the San Diego Padres, but elected to attend the University of Michigan on a full athletic scholarship. During his time with the Wolverines, Grimes was a three-year starter that finished his career with a 22-5 record, becoming one of only nine players in Michigan baseball history to conclude a season with five or more wins and no losses in a 6-0 freshman campaign. Grimes ended his career as the ninth-winningest pitcher in program history, leading the team with a 2.91 earned run average his sophomore year and concluding his tenure at Ann Arbor with 189 strikeouts.

In 1989, Grimes joined the Oakland Athletics after being drafted in the third round of the 1989 MLB Amateur Draft, competing in the A’s minor league system from 1989-92 before being selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft. Grimes and his wife, Michelle, live in Dallas.
