Coach Woods begins his sixth season as defensive coordinator. The Ranger defense has shut out seven opponents under Woods. Prior to his arrival at Jesuit, Woods was the defensive coordinator at Highland Park. During Woods’ seven seasons at HP, he coached 19 all-state selections, won state titles in 2016 and 2017, and in 2018, was named the National Football Foundation Assistant Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, Woods has reached the state semifinal on five occasions.

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history and physical education from Austin College in 1981, Woods earned his master’s degree in education in 1982 while claiming an NAIA co-national championship as a graduate assistant for the ‘Roos in 1981. Don and his wife, Elizabeth, have two sons: Clayton, currently an offensive line graduate assistant at Oklahoma, and Austin, who is the offensive line coach at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio.
