Both teams struggled offensively to start the game, with Little Elm notching the first bucket for either team halfway through the first quarter. Trailing, 6-1, with 3:00 left in the opening quarter, the Rangers utilized an eight-point run that took over four minutes, culminating with a pair of free throws by Hill that gave Jesuit Dallas its first lead of the contest, a lead the Blue and Gold would not relinquish.
The Rangers would bolster their lead by shooting 5-of-9 in the second quarter, compared to a 3-of-14 performance from the floor by the Lobos. Hill hit the final bucket of the first half for the Rangers, who took a 21-14 lead into halftime.
Kunasek dominated the opening portion of the third, converting a traditional three-point play before hitting two additional free throws within the first minute of the second half to give the Rangers their first double-digit lead of the game. The Lobos would whittle away at the Jesuit Dallas advantage, bringing the Ranger lead down to five with 4:27 remaining on the third quarter clock, but a 9-0 Jesuit Dallas run, which included five points by Jankovich, spotted the home squad a game-high 14 point lead.
An 11-5 Lobo run brought the visitors to within two points with 5:23 remaining, but the Rangers would not break, taking firm control of the game with an 18-2 run over the next three minutes to essentially clinch the matchup.
The Rangers will next welcome Xavier (Calif.) to Walsh Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the 2015 Knights of Columbus Dallas Classic.
