Jesuit Dallas made a definitive step towards a second consecutive University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A Championship, scoring 31 unanswered points to derail Skyline, 53-12, on Friday evening at Postell Stadium.
Senior
John Wunderlick recorded the most individual yards for a Jesuit running back since 2013 with a phenomenal, 208-yard performance, scoring three touchdowns. Averaging 17.3 yards per carry, Wunderlick notched the most yards since a 199-yard outing by Orion Salters on November 23 against Rockwall. Wunderlick also became the second Ranger this season to score three rushing touchdowns in one game, matching Jackson's three scores against Coppell on September 23.
Jesuit (3-3, 3-0 UIL 9-6A) made several spectacular plays, the first a 98-yard blocked point after return by senior
Billy Daly, which built the Ranger lead to 12-6 at the end of the first quarter. Wunderlick scored a 42-yard touchdown run with 2:18 remaining in the third, the second-longest touchdown run of the year, which was preceded by a 41-yard touchdown scamper by senior
Evan Jackson with 10:47 left in the second quarter.
Senior
Jacob Palisch completed 9-of-13 passes for 90 yards, scoring a passing and rushing touchdown, also finishing the game as the team's leading receiver, catching a 47-yard pass from junior
Parker Towns in the second quarter. Junior
Israel Ollarzabal remained perfect on the year converting field goals inside the 30-yard line, going 3-for-3 on Friday with field goals from 23, 30 and 24 yards.
The Rangers forced three Skyline turnovers, an interception by Daly followed by fumble recoveries from juniors
Hank Bitterman and
Nicky Prendergast. Fourth year
Matt Eubanks made five solo stops, while junior
Luke Nolan recorded five tackles. Jesuit stopped Skyline (2-4, 0-3) for 11 tackles for loss, holding the Raiders to 198 total yards of offense and 1-for-5 on fourth down attempts. Â
Friday's victory moves Jesuit's district winning streak to 12 games. The Rangers will next welcome J.J. Pearce to Postell Stadium on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m.
