Jesuit Scores Two-Win Wednesday at Allen Invite

Jesuit responded to a first round setback with two resounding wins, earning a berth in the In-and-Out Burger Allen Holiday Invitational Consolation Championship game with an 85-65 win over Fort Bend Travis and a 46-32 triumph against McKinney North on Wednesday at Allen High School.

Against Fort Bend Travis, the Ranger guard contingent buried 19 three-pointers, led by junior Marcus Hill, who tied a career-high with seven three-pointer en route to a team-high 25 points. Senior Michael Jankovich tacked on 22 points, going 6-of-12 from deep to tie his career best performance from three-point range. Sophomore Max Abmas scored 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting, while junior Reid Hatzmann tacked on eight assists. Senior Alan Garcia tied Hill for a team-best eight boards, while Abmas added two steals to pace the Rangers.

In the nightcap, the Rangers cooled off from range, but out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 24-19, adding 10 points off of 10 McKinney North turnovers to secure the win. Jankovich recorded a team-high 13 points, followed by nine points from Hill and six from Hatzmann. Senior Mitch Prendergast assisted on six Jesuit buckets, while senior Jacob Palisch added a team-leading seven boards.

Jesuit quickly took command of the early game, building a 14-point lead with 2:48 left in the first quarter. The Rangers (9-5) finished the opening stanza 10-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range, holding Fort Bend Travis to 1-of-5 from distance. The Tigers were able to reduce the Jesuit lead to seven points early in the second quarter, but a 15-0 run in the fourth clinched the win and advanced the Rangers.

An 11-0 run midway through the third quarter swung momentum soundly in Jesuit's favor. The Rangers buried all three shots from beyond the arc, led by five points from Garcia to take a 14-point lead with 2:13 left in the quarter. McKinney North sliced the lead to nine with 55 second remaining in the quarter, but Jankovich scored his 13th point on Prendergast's sixth assist to give Jesuit a double-digit lead it would not relinquish down the stretch.

Jesuit opened the In-and-Out Holiday Invitational with a 63-53 setback to Midlothian on Tuesday to land in the consolation bracket. On Thursday at 11:30 a.m., the Rangers will battle University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A foe Berkner in the consolation championship in the main gym at Allen H.S. in a non-district clash.
