Four goals by junior attack
Daniel Burnum helped propel Jesuit Dallas to a 9-5 win over The Woodlands on Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas.
Burnum was one of four Rangers to find the back of the net, helping keep Jesuit Dallas (3-0) unbeaten on the year. Sophomore
David Sprock tallied a season-high three goals, while seniors
Sean Rilley and
Garrett Munck each found twine once. Munck added a pair of assists alongside Rilley and fellow seniors
Blake Buell and
John Michael Priddy.
Jesuit Dallas totaled 28 ground balls on the afternoon, a team leading eight of which were secured by senior
John Michael Priddy. Buell tacked on five ground balls while junior
Reece Ellison secured four. Junior goalkeeper
Luke Millican ended Saturday's game with seven saves.
In a rematch of last year's Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Super Regional, won 7-0 by The Woodlands, the Rangers broke through first with 4:31 remaining in the opening quarter, when Sprock scored his first goal of the game on an assist by Rilley. Sprock added his first goal of the game with 2:19 remaining, and Millican made a pair of first half stops to give the squad a 2-0 lead headed into the second quarter.
Burnum added two more goals in the second quarter, including his third goal of the game with 47 seconds remaining in the half, to help the Rangers out-score The Woodlands, 3-1, in the quarter. Rilley earned his second point of the game with his third goal of the season to increase Jesuit's second quarter offense, propelling the Blue and Gold to a 5-1 halftime lead.
Sprock tallied a pair of goals eight minutes apart in the third quarter, sending Jesuit into the fourth with a five-goal advantage. The Woodlands attempted a fourth quarter rally, scoring three goals in a late flurry. However, Millican made four saves in the final quarter, while Burnum and Munck provided the Rangers with lead-increasing tallies to keep the Highlanders at bay until the final horn.
Jesuit Dallas will remain in Houston for a Sunday clash against Strake Jesuit. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
