David Sprock propelled the Rangers to an 11-2 win over Strake Jesuit on Sunday afternoon, keeping Jesuit Dallas, ranked No. 3 in the state of Texas according to the most recent
LaxPower.com Regional Rankings, unbeaten with a two-win weekend in Houston, Texas.
Sprock finished Sunday's contest with five points on three goals and two assists, while senior
Matthew Favre and sophomore
Grayson Hassell tacked on two goals each. Junior goalkeeper
Stephen Price made his regular season debut, recording 13 saves in cage for Jesuit. Freshman
Jacob Jackson and senior
Garrett Munck each recorded two assists, while sophomore
Jack Tabor secured a team-leading six ground balls.
Jesuit Dallas (4-0) won the ground ball battle, 30-22, assisted by junior
Reece Ellison, who snagged five ground balls, along with seniors
John Michael Priddy and
Blake Buell, both of whom secured four ground balls against the Crusaders. In addition, the Rangers dominated the faceoff "x", winning 12-of-16 faceoffs, and were a perfect 20-for-20 in clears.
Senior
Sean Rilley, Tabor and Favre found twine in the opening quarter to spot the visitors a 3-0 lead. Sprock netted his first goal of the contest alongside Favre's second tally and Hassell's first, allowing the Blue and Gold to take a 6-1 advantage into the halftime break.
Hassell jump-started the Jesuit offense in the second half, finding twine with 7:47 left in the third to increase the lead to six goals. The Rangers responded to Strake's second goal with four unanswered tallies to close out the contest, two of which were scored by Sprock, to finish the team's dominant trip to Houston.
Jesuit will return to the friendly confines of Postell Stadium for a pair of games this upcoming week, slated to face off against Allen at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 before welcoming St. John's for an 11 a.m. bout on Saturday, Feb. 27.
