Louis Helsen IV in a dominant, 7-1, semifinal win over Allen, the Rangers fell, 3-2, in overtime to John Paul II in the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) High School State Championship game on Sunday at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch.
Helsen totaled seven goals over the three-game schedule, dominating over the final weekend with five goals in two days and a team-leading eight points.Â

Preston Schwartz and
Holton Schwartz added goals in Saturday's win over Allen, while
Nicholas Gibbs lit the lamp for the Blue and Gold against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Ranger net minder
George McBey made 32 saves against Allen, turning aside four Eagle power play opportunities en route to the win. Against Allen, Helsen tallied the Rangers' first two goals, scoring 2:34 into the opening period shorthanded before adding his second goal at the 7:05 mark. Helsen and
Anthony Calabrese then assisted on Schmidt's goal 9:11 into the opening stanza to send the Blue and Gold into the first intermission with a three-goal advantage.Â
Helsen and
Preston Schwartz added goals in the second to increase the lead to five goals before a power play goal by
Holton Schwartz opened the third. Helsen then added his fourth goal of the contest with less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest, taking a pass from Calabrese and sending it past the Eagles net minder to spot the Rangers a 7-0 advantage, shaking off a late goal by Allen to advance to the TAHA State Championship contest.
John Paul II struck early in the state championship game, scoring two goals within the first 3:30 to take a 2-0 lead into the second. Helsen scored at the midway point of the second to open the scoring for the Rangers before Gibbs lit the lamp on the power play 7:29 into the third to tie the game and send the state championship contest into the extra session. The Cardinals ended the game with an overtime goal 1:22 into the extra session.
The Rangers will next begin the home stretch of the 2015-16 AT&T Metroplex Hockey League season on Thursday, hosting Plano East/Lovejoy at 8:45 p.m. at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Richardson.
