The Jesuit Dallas defense slammed the door on Lake Travis, shutting out the Cavaliers in the second half while scoring 11 unanswered goals to punch a ticket to the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) State Tournament semifinal, 14-2, on Sunday evening at Moorehead Stadium in Conroe, Texas.
Nine members of the No. 2 Rangers found the back of the net, including a team-leading three goals by sophomore
David Sprock. Senior
Garrett Munck joined juniors
Daniel Burnum and
Grayson Hassell with a pair of goals in the scoring column, while seniors
Zachary Kissick,
Blake Buell,
John Michael Priddy,
Sean Rilley and junior
Reece Ellison also found twine.
Ellison and Priddy secured a team-high seven ground balls each, helping Jesuit Dallas (15-2) win the ground ball battle, 40-25. The Ranger defense kept the Cavaliers in check, only allowing five total shots 10 clears out of 23 attempts.
Munck kicked off the scoring for the Rangers, finding the back of the net three minutes into the first to give the Rangers the early advantage. After Lake Travis tied the contest with 7:14 remaining in the opening quarter, Sprock scored his first goal of the contest early in the second to return the lead to the Rangers. The Cavaliers tied the contest once again with 7:11 left on the first half clock before three unanswered goals, scored by Hassell, Burnum and Buell sent the Rangers into the break with a 5-2 lead.
Jesuit would take command in the fourth quarter after goals from Sprock and Hassell in the third, finding the back of the net seven times in the final quarter for the dominant victory while stymying the Cavalier offense down the stretch of the fourth.
