Plano East senior quarterback Miklo Smalls threw for 340 passing yards and three touchdowns, adding 20 net yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Rice commit helped lead the Panthers to 562 yards of total offense.
The Rangers (0-2) started the game with a methodical, 11-play, 85-yard drive that spanned 5:59 of the first quarter. An 11-yard rush by Jackson put the Rangers into Plano East territory, and the senior cashed in several plays later from eight yards out for the game-opening score. Plano East quickly recovered, scoring on a seven-play, 70-yard drive to knot the game at 7-7 heading into the second.
After Plano East took the lead with 11:29 remaining in the half, Jesuit used another long drive to lock the game up at 14-14. Consisting of 13 plays and 74 yards, Jackson found the end zone for the second time with a 16-yard scamper. A 95-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff returned the lead to the Panthers, who increased the advantage to 28-14 after recording a Jesuit fumble inside the Rangers' 30-yard line.
With 1:19 on the clock in the second quarter, Plano East (1-1) forced another Jesuit turnover to take over possession at its own 35-yard line. However, on the following play, Guzman recovered a Plano East turnover to give the ball back to the Blue and Gold. Towns concluded the wild exchange with a 23-yard touchdown pass to
Connor Jackson, sending Plano East into halftime with a seven-point lead.
Plano East kicked off the second half with back-to-back touchdowns, building the Panther lead to 23 points. Towns struck again with another long pass, finding Wunderlick from 31 yards out to score the Rangers' first points of the third quarter and cutting the Plano East advantage to 44-27. However, the Plano East defense, led by Anthony Hines III, the No. 11-ranked overall prospect in the state, shut the Rangers out in the fourth.
