Rangers Race to Playoff Berth After Dominant Homecoming Victory

Inspired by a passionate homecoming crowd that braved a chilly late fall evening, Jesuit Dallas cruised to a 59-35 win over Lake Highlands on Friday evening at Postell Stadium. Senior Fletcher Rosenbleeth recorded the most reception yards since 2013 with a 235-yard, three-touchdown performance, helping Jesuit Dallas (4-4, 4-1 UIL 9-6A) clinch a playoff berth and its fourth consecutive victory.

Rosenbleeth scored touchdowns of 32, 34 and 75 yards to earn a new career-high in receiving. Entering Friday's bout leading the Metroplex in receiving, Rosenbleeth surpassed the 228 yards recorded by Orion Slaters on Nov. 15, 2013 against Plano East to earn the highest receiving yard total in four seasons. Junior Parker Towns excelled behind center, finishing the contest with his fifth 300-yard game by completing 17 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns.

Sophomore EJ Smith rushed for a career-high 177 yards and four all-purpose touchdowns, contributing to a total offensive effort that finished with 601 yards. Senior Kevin Tabet and junior Andrew Gregory recovered fumbles that led to a touchdowns, while sophomore Christian Allocco snagged a third-quarter interception to shut down the Wildcats' first opening drive of the second half.

How it Happened

  • Smith found pay dirt four minutes into the first quarter from 32 yards out to hand Jesuit an early, 7-0 lead. Lake Highlands responded with a seven-play, 80-yard drive to tie the game then regained possession after a lost fumble by the Rangers. However, Lake Highlands was unable to convert the turnovers into points, missing a 28-yard field goal.

  • Lake Highlands had another opportunity to take the lead after a Jesuit punt, but Tabet's recovered fumble stalled an eight-play Wildcat drive. With the ball on their 40-yard line, the Rangers took the lead on a 32-yard pass from Towns to Rosenbleeth 37 seconds into the second quarter.

  • Gregory sacked Lake Highlands quarterback Jaxson Thompson to stall a Wildcat drive and force a punt. Six plays into the Jesuit drive, Towns found Rosenbleeth for the first time for a 34-yard touchdown pass. Jesuit took a commanding, 27-7 lead on its ensuing drive on a 69-yard touchdown reception by Smith.

  • The Wildcats scored with 2:57 left in the half and a 37-yard field goal by Koshakji resulted in a 31-14 lead for the Blue and Gold heading into the halftime break. Koshakji remains perfect on the year in field-goal attempts, converting all four opportunities.

  • Allocco jumpstarted Jesuit out of the halftime break with an interception at the Jesuit 19-yard line to halt a Lake Highlands drive. On the second play of Jesuit's ensuing drive, Towns threw a 75-yard strike to Rosenbleeth for a 37-14 lead. Smith added a 13-yard touchdown rush to hand Jesuit a 30-point lead.

  • An eight-yard touchdown run by Smith and a two-yard charge into the end zone by junior Matthew Priddy sent the Rangers to a 58-21 lead in the waning moments of the third quarter.

  • After Lake Highlands scored back-to-back touchdowns, the Rangers slammed the door on the wildcats with an 11-play, 31-yard drive that chewed out the final 7:10 of the fourth quarter. Senior Sean Maguire shined in the Rangers' final drive, carrying the ball seven times for 31 yards to allow the Rangers to clinch the victory.
