Lacrosse - Class A

No. 4 Lacrosse Lights Up Scoreboard in Season-Opening Win

Jesuit Dallas lacrosse erupted out of the gate to start the 2017 campaign, defeating Allen, 14-5, on Friday, Feb. 10 at Curtis Middle School.

Junior David Sprock and senior Daniel Burnum each began the season with hat tricks, sparked by three goals in the first period by Sprock. Burnum added a pair of fourth quarter tallies to compliment a third quarter goal. Freshman Tommy Hovivian and junior Grayson Hassell scored two goals apiece, while sophomore Jacob Jackson, juniors Jack Tabor and Marshall Ellison scored one goal each. Sprock tacked on two assists, tying senior Michael Kelley and Marshall Ellison for the team lead. Hassell and Tabor picked up one assist each.

Tabor led Jesuit (1-0) with eight groundballs, vaulting Jesuit to 42 overall ground balls. The Rangers went 26-for-28 in clear attempts, winning 11 of 22 faceoffs. Senior Luke Millican made 14 saves in the cage for the Blue and Gold, picking up his first win of the season.

Jesuit blanked Allen, 4-0 in the first quarter, sparked by a goal from Sprock two minutes after the opening whistle. Hovivian scored with 8:37 left in the fourth, but two goals in the final 1:30 from Sprock handed Jesuit the four-goal lead heading into the second.

Sprock struck again with 9:13 left in the second, continuing a run of six unanswered goals by the Rangers which, combined with goals from Tabor and Hassell vaulted the Blue and Gold into a 7-1 halftime lead. Allen scored a pair of third-quarter goals, but Ranger tallies from Burnum, Hovivian, Jackson and Hassell kept Jesuit in control.

Burnum completed his hat trick with a two-goal fourth, while Jesuit won four of five faceoffs and converted all six clear opportunities to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard down the stretch.

Jesuit will next welcome The Woodlands to Postell Stadium for an 11 a.m. matchup on Saturday, Feb. 18. In 2016, The Rangers traveled to Houston to face The Woodlands, upending the Highlanders, 9-5 behind four goals from Burnum and three tallies from Sprock. Saturday's game signals the beginning of a two-game home stand for the Blue and Gold, which will continue on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Plano West.
