Okamoto Fires First Career No-Hitter in Saturday Sweep

Jesuit Dallas senior pitcher Miles Okamoto earned his first career no-hitter, throwing five innings to lead the Rangers to a 10-0 win over MacArthur on Saturday in Hutto, Texas. Jesuit would sweep the day with an 11-4 victory over Westlake in the nightcap.

Okamoto and fellow fourth year Heath Vankirk picked up victories on the mound on Saturday, holding opposing hitters to a .262 total batting average. Sophomore Jaden Woodson and Junior Maccoy Lopez tied for a team-leading four hits apiece, while Woodson led the squad with six runs during the doubleheader. In total, Jesuit scattered 21 hits during the two contests, while seniors Mark Ready and John Guzman each scored a team-high four runs.

Okamoto went the distance in his first start of the season, frustrating Cardinals hitters all afternoon with a slider that caused 10 groundouts out of 16 batters faced in the five-inning affair. The scoring began in the first with a sacrifice fly from senior Will Guzman that plated John Guzman for the early lead. Two runs scored in the third, the first from another RBI hit from Will Guzman before senior Jake Ryan scored Ready on a sacrifice fly to spot the Blue and Gold a 3-0 advantage.

Senior John Guzman aided to the Ranger effort with a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the fourth, an inning that saw the Blue and Gold hang six runs on MacArthur after Woodson drove in three runs on a triple to center. A single to left by senior Michael Schoettmer ended the game in the fifth, resulting in a no-hitter for Okamoto in his first varsity start.

A double by Lopez and single by John Guzman helped carry the offense over to the nightcap, as a sacrifice fly from Alex Lengyel and with two wild pitches spotted Jesuit an early, 5-0 lead. In the fifth, Lengyel forced a bases loaded walk and Woodson launched a three-run double, propelling Jesuit to a comfortable, 10-3 lead. Lopez drove in the Rangers' final run of the weekend on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly.

Jesuit Dallas will next return to Wright Field for the first time since the 2016 season for the 2017 Jesuit Dallas Baseball Classic. The Rangers will begin the tournament with 2 p.m. matchup against Denton on Thursday, Mar. 2.
