No. 13 Soccer Clinches Eighth UIL District Championship, Shuts Out Berkner

A penalty kick goal from senior Ethan Moore kick started another phenomenal effort by the Jesuit Dallas soccer squad, resulting in a district championship-clinching, 3-0 win over Berkner on Friday evening at Wildcat-Ram Stadium in Richardson, Texas. Jesuit's eighth University Interscholastic League (UIL) District Championship and third consecutive district crown, the Rangers will enter the postseason ranked 13th in the state, aiming for their second UIL 6A State Championship.

Moore, fellow senior Chase Burciaga and junior Christian Lerma scored goals for Jesuit, while junior Joseph Banul earned the win in goal in a bout that saw Jesuit (15-3-1, 12-1-1 UIL 9-6A) post its 10th shutout of the year. Completely dominating the contest, the Rangers only allowed four shots from the Rams (3-16-1, 0-14-0), one of which was on target, while Jesuit took 13 shots, including 10 on goal, forging five corner attempts.

Lerma started the Jesuit assault with a shot two minutes into the opening half. Senior Reilly Minigutti took a shot with 37:06 left in the first which was blocked by the arm of a Berkner defender, leading to a penalty attempt. Moore slotted home the penalty to the left side of the goal to hand the Rangers an early lead.

Jesuit dominated the pace of play in the first half, holding Berkner without a shot until the 13th minute. Burciaga scored the Rangers' second goal of the game on a shot from 12 yards out, which was deflected in off the Rams' goalkeeper.

Senior David Morgado assisted on Lerma's goal in the 47th minute, threading through the Berkner defense to find Lerma on the right post for an easy goal. Berkner's lone shot on goal game on a free kick, ricocheting off the crossbar and keeping the shutout intact.

Jesuit will next face Rowlett in the UIL 6A Soccer Tournament Bi-District Round. The date, time and location for the contest will be determined over the coming days.
