Rangers Score Win With Second Straight Fourth-Quarter Comeback

Senior Trey Wiederecht scored a pair of goals, including a go-ahead tally with 6:35 remaining in the fourth quarter, to push Jesuit Dallas past Coppell, 6-4, in comeback fashion with a three-goal fourth quarter on Friday evening.

Five Rangers found twine, as senior David Burnum, juniors David Sprock, Grayson Hassell and sophomore Peter Buell landed in the scoring column. Burnum snagged a team-high two assists, while junior Jack Tabor and sophomore Matthew Priddy secured a squad-leading six groundballs each.

Sophomore William Moran made eight saves in cage, and the Jesuit defense held Coppell without a shot in the fourth quarter en route to the win, converting 30-of-32 clear opportunities and winning 10-of-14 faceoffs, including all four chances in the fourth quarter.

Coppell took an early lead in the first quarter before Jesuit struck with goals by Hassell and Wiederecht to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. Buell scored a goal in the second quarter, but a pair of tallies by the Cowboys sent the game into the halftime break at a 2-2 stalemate. Coppell shut the Rangers out in the third, scoring the go-ahead goal with 3:06 remaining in the stanza, but Jesuit struck back with a dominant fourth quarter.

Burnum tied the contest with 11:50 left in regulation off of a pass by Wiederecht, who would score the go-ahead goal five minutes later. Sprock closed the bout with an insurance goal at the 3:39 mark, and the Rangers were able to whittle out the clock for the victory.

Jesuit will return to Postell Stadium on Saturday, April 8 to welcome the undefeated Wolverines from Bellevue, Washington for a 2:30 p.m. faceoff. Saturday's showdown will begin Jesuit's homestretch, set to continue with a Thursday evening clash with St. Mark's on April 13 before a rivalry matchup and 2016 Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) rematch against Highland Park on for April 21 at Postell Stadium.
