Baseball Season Concludes With Road Loss to No. 5 Rockwall-Heath

Jesuit scored two runs in the top of the first, but Rockwall-Heath responded quickly, handing the Rangers a 13-3, season-ending loss in game two of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 2-6A Area Round on Friday at Rockwall-Heath High School.

Seniors Mark Ready and John Guzman joined sophomores Jaden Woodson and Garrett Reuben in the hit column, while Woodson and senior Jake Ryan drove in one run each. Miles Okamoto threw 1.2 innings, striking out one batter, while starting pitcher JJ Montenegro took the loss, striking out one batter over two innings pitched. Senior Wyatt Hasson and junior Tyler Murrah also spent time on mound for Jesuit (23-14).

The Rangers jumped on the Hawks for two runs in the first. Ready blasted a full-count double to right center field to leadoff the game, crossing the plate on a single up the middle by Woodson. Ryan drove Woodson home with a sacrifice fly to center, spotting the Blue and Gold a two-run lead heading into the second. Heath struck back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, all three coming off of a double by cleanup hitter Josh Thurman.

Jesuit tied the game in the second on a Rockwall-Heath error that allowed senior Will Guzman to cross the plate. However, the Hawks erupted for eight runs over the next two innings to take command of the ball game with an 11-3 lead in the third, tacking on two runs in the fourth before retiring Jesuit in order in the fifth inning.
