How it Happened
Â
- Prosper opened the contest with a four-play, 65-yard drive to take a 6-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. Spicer blocked the Eagle extra point attempt, a play that would loom large during the team's fourth-quarter comeback.
Â
- Jesuit's first two drives stalled as Prosper took possession with six minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Rangers stopped Prosper inside the red zone, limiting a 13-play, 57-yard drive to a field goal to give the Eagles a 9-0 lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
Â
- Prosper struck again on its first drive of the second quarter as Eagle quarterback found wide receiver Devin Haskins for a 23-yard touchdown reception, spotting Prosper a 17-0 lead with 9:14 remaining in the half.
Â
- Jesuit responded to the Prosper touchdown with a seven-play drive which culminated in the team's first touchdown. A 10-yard run by Smith on third down extended the drive early before a 28-yard rush by the junior put the Rangers within striking distance.
Â
- Shuman completed a short slant pass to Hajdu for a five-yard touchdown reception, getting the Rangers on the board while cutting the deficit to 10 points. Prosper scored with 22 seconds remaining in the half to take a 24-7 lead into halftime.
Â
- The Rangers captured momentum to start the third quarter, marching down the field for a seven-play, 64-yard drive. Senior Sean Barnett caught two passes for 27 yards to give the Rangers back-to-back first downs before Shuman found Whisler from 10 yards out for the team's second touchdown, returning the deficit to 10 points.
Â
- Jesuit forced a Prosper punt to take its first shot at cutting further into the Eagle lead, but an interception by Shuman returned the ball to Prosper with 1:55 remaining in the third. The Eagles closed the quarter with three rushes for 49 yards by running back Wayne Anderson, but Jesuit stood tall once again, holding Prosper to a field goal after a Houston Hummel and senior Witt Chambers combined for a critical third down stop inside the Ranger 15-yard line.
Â
- Hajdu caught his second touchdown of the game with 7:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, capping a 10-play, 75-yard drive to reduce the deficit to a single possession. Another forced punt spotted the ball at the Jesuit 15-yard line with 4:42 remaining in regulation to set the stage for the go-ahead touchdown.
Â
- Prosper was flagged for defensive holding on third-and-17 and Smith moved the sticks on a fourth down to keep the nine-play Jesuit drive intact. Taylor broke away from the Eagle defense for a 28-yard touchdown run, giving Jesuit a 28-27 lead with 1:32 remaining after the extra point from senior James Koshakji.
Â
- A 48-yard rush by Prosper's Anderson put the Eagles in position for the game-winning score. York converted a 16-yard field goal with two seconds remaining and Jesuit's last-second lateral was stopped to close the contest.
