How it Happened
Â
- Coppell struck early, plating three runs in the first inning. A single to left center by Mack kicked off the game for the Rangers, who would come roaring back after a bunt single by Lopez and a double to right center by Woodson would bring Mack home for the team's first run. Lopez would score on a sacrifice fly from Reuben to bring the Rangers to within a single run of the Cowboy lead.
Â
- Jesuit placed runners into scoring position in the second and threatened with a one-out single in the fourth but were unable to cut into the Coppell lead. Meanwhile the Cowboys were able to add a fourth run in the top of the third after a one-out ground rule double.
Â
- Senior Luke Przybylski led off the bottom of the fifth by reaching base on a Coppell error. A walk to Mack and a bunt single by Lopez loaded the bases and Reuben brought Przybylski on an RBI groundout. Coppell would return the lead to two runs with a one-hit inning assisted by a pair of Jesuit errors.
Â
- In the bottom of the sixth, a leadoff walk to sophomore Tyson Pointer began a Jesuit rally. A double to right by Mack drove home sophomore pinch runner Tanner Jones to cut the lead to one before Lopez drove home Mack on a two-out single to the Coppell shortstop, beating the throw to tie the game at 5-5.
Â
- Coppell would strike for three runs on four hits and no errors in the top of the seventh to take a three-run lead into the final inning. The Cowboys retired the Rangers in order to clinch the win and the season sweep.
