A slew of severe thunderstorms put an early end to Friday's non-district bout against DeSoto as the contest was cancelled with 2:03 remaining in the second quarter. The contest was ultimately concluded as a 20-10 victory for the Eagles as the Ranger upset bid fell just short of shocking the Metroplex.
Junior quarterback Kevin Shuman completed 7-of-15 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Shuman completed an 89-yard touchdown pass to senior Nick Hafertepe, marking the longest touchdown reception since senior Jacob Palisch '17 completed an 89-yard touchdown pass to Fletcher Rosenbleeth '18 against W.T. White on October 28, 2016. Seniors Travis Whisler and Jack Hajdu caught a season-high three passes each while junior EJ Smith rushed the ball nine times.
Senior Jacob Jowdy made a team-leading five tackles as junior Jack Barton tacked on a tackle for loss. Junior Nash Corcoran secured an interception as juniors Houston Hummel, Tommy Roy and senior Andrew Gregory recorded three tackles apiece.
How it Happened
- The two teams traded possessions to start the contest as DeSoto missed a 34-yard field goal its first possession of the game. The Eagles scored a 33-yard touchdown to open the contest. Junior Jhalen Spicer blocked the extra point, keeping the DeSoto lead at six points with 5:59 remaining in the opening quarter.

- On the second play of their second drive, Shuman found Hafertepe for the long touchdown reception, which allowed Jesuit to take a 7-6 lead with 5:29 left in the first quarter.Â

- DeSoto responded with a seven-play, 77-yard drive to take a 13-7 advantage with 3:33 remaining in the quarter. The Rangers then marched 66 yards down the field on a drive that culminated with a 31-yard field goal from senior James Koshakji 20 seconds into the second quarter, cutting the Eagle lead to three points.

- Jesuit looked poised to take the lead after Corcoran's interception of Shun'Darion Ward with 10:14 left in the second quarter. A Ranger turnover allowed DeSoto to take a 20-10 lead on a wild, 51-yard touchdown pass. Corcoran looked poised for his second interception of the game on a screen pass, but the ball found its way to Jayce Medlock for a critical DeSoto touchdown.
