Rangers Run Away from Wildcats With Decisive Second Half

A 23-point performance from senior Julius Marble helped Jesuit Dallas shake off a slow start en route to a 67-54 win over Plano on Jan. 29 at Plano Senior H.S. With the victory, Jesuit Dallas moves to 8-2 in district play ahead of Friday's showdown against the McKinney Lions.

Marble secured a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor while hitting seven free-throws. Senior Max Abmas scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting, as senior Anthony Hollerich tacked on 13 points and a team-leading four steals. Sophomore Gavin Perryman added six points and a team-leading four assists while junior Eli Steger and Marble recorded two blocks each.

Jesuit Dallas (23-5) out-rebounded Plano, 29-22, finishing the game shooting 61.0 percent from the floor while holding Plano to a 5-of-15 clip from three-point range. The efficient Ranger offense scored 42 points in the paint, 10 points off of 12 Plano turnovers and nine points on 11 second chance rebounds.

Both teams struggled from the floor to start the game as the contest went into the second quarter with Jesuit Dallas holding an 11-7 lead, setting the stage for a first half battle between the two squads. With 7:50 remaining in the second quarter, Jesuit built a seven-point lead before two buckets by Plano cut the lead to three. The two teams continued to battle as Jesuit never yielded the lead to the Wildcats. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by Zychari Crayton sent the game into halftime with the Rangers clinging onto a three-point lead.

Six unanswered points started the third quarter for Jesuit as the Rangers would take a nine-point lead, crossing the double-digit plateau with a traditional three-point play from Marble. The Rangers would take a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter to punctuate a strong quarter which saw the Blue and Gold outscore Plano, 19-12. The Rangers would close the bout by outscoring Plano, 20-17 in the fourth, holding onto the lead down the stretch with a 12-of-18 clip from the free-throw line.
