Jesuit Dallas concluded its first circuit of district play with an 0-4-3 district record after a 0-0 tie with Plano East on Tuesday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers enter the second round of league play in seventh place and three games behind Plano West for the final playoff spot in the district.
Â
The Rangers and Panthers closed a closely contested bout with a 0-0 tie on Feb. 12 at Postell Stadium. Tullis was forced to make eight saves in net to open the door for the Rangers to stay within striking distance of a late-season push to the playoffs. Plano East totaled 12 shots while the Rangers garnered 11 opportunities, including four on goal.
Â
Jesuit was also able to keep the pressure on Plano East throughout the contest, forcing five corner kick opportunities and earning eight free kicks off of Panther fouls. Sophomore
Danny Ruggiero made four shot attempts, including two shots on goal while Shea and junior
Stratton Ross each placed a shot on target. Jesuit's first quality chance of the evening came on back-to-back corner kick opportunities in the 25th minute after Plano East took two shots in the opening 15, but neither team was able to capitalize prior to the halftime break.
Â
The Rangers mounted immense pressure on the Panthers in the second half with a salvo including six shots and two corner kicks over a 15-minute span but were unable to take the lead. Over the final 20 minutes of the contest Tullis made five saves to maintain the tie, but Jesuit's last shot on goal came with two minutes remaining and was turned aside by Plano East goalkeeper Cameron Martin.
Â
Jesuit will look to score its first win since Jan. 12 against the Wolves on Feb. 19. In the first meeting between the two teams, Plano West defeated the Rangers, 3-2 on Jan. 22, taking a 2-0 lead and halting a second half comeback attempt which included goals from junior
Diego Sierra and senior
James Koshakji. The contest will be broadcast live on JesuitRangers.org.
