Second-Half Goal Sends Wolves Past Rangers

Plano West derailed Jesuit's hopes to secure a critical district win on the road, scoring in the 80th minute to upend the Rangers, 1-0, on Friday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers battled with the Wolves despite being out-shot, 23-5, but head into the home stretch of the season aiming to secure its first win of the district campaign.

The Rangers racked up five shots during the game and earned eight free kicks off of Plano West fouls as senior goalkeeper Connor Tullis made 11 saves in the net. Seniors James Koshakji, John Scott Lacina, juniors Stratton Ross, Danny Ruggiero and sophomore Jason Davis leveled shots for the Blue and Gold.

Jesuit made its first run of the game as Ross sent a shot high in the first minute, but Plano West responded with five shots over the next 15 minutes to garner momentum. The Rangers turned aside 11 first half attempts to keep the game scoreless at halftime. Ruggiero sent a header wide in the waning moments of the first half.

Tullis made three saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half as the Wolves garnered early momentum. Plano West was finally able to cash in and score the tie-breaking goal in the 80th minute on a cross-box pass which got past the Ranger defense. A last-minute attempt by the Rangers came up empty as Koshakji triggered a shot at the buzzer.

The Rangers will travel to McKinney ISD Stadium on Friday, Feb. 22 to battle McKinney Boyd before returning to Postell Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 26 against Prosper.
