Early Tally Falls Short Against McKinney

Senior Aleksei Ramirez scored his first varsity goal seconds into Jesuit's district bout against McKinney on Feb. 8, but the Lions would shut the door on the Rangers' offense down the stretch and keep Jesuit winless in district with a 2-1 decision at Postell Stadium.

Ramirez' goal came after an opening defensive breakdown by the Lions. The senior took a ball from midfield towards the far sideline, then sent a lob shot from 20 yards out which carried over the head of the McKinney defenders and landed in the near side of the net after going uncontested by the Lions' goalkeeper. The first of Jesuit's five shots gave the Rangers a lead, but McKinney would strike back in the 12th minute off of a goal by Micah Ardila.

The Rangers created additional opportunities in the second half as McKinney earned two yellow cards, but the Lions turned away two late shots from the Rangers. Senior Connor Tullis made two one-on-one saves before yielding the go-ahead tally in the 56th minute.

Jesuit will next welcome Plano East to Postell Stadium before concluding the first round of district play on Feb. 19 at home against Plano West.
