Seven Unanswered Goals, Stout Defensive Effort Sends Jesuit to State Semifinal

Jesuit Dallas outscored Memorial, 7-0 over the final three quarters of regulation en route to an 8-1 win over the Mustangs in the Super Regional round of the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Tournament. With the victory, Jesuit will return to championship weekend for the third time in four years and will battle Episcopal School of Dallas in a THSLL State Semifinal at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.

Junior Billy Metz and sophomore Curran Rose scored two goals each to lead the Jesuit effort as the Rangers saw senior William Moran made eight saves in cage for the Blue and Gold. Seniors Jacob Jackson, Peter Buell, junior Tommy Hovivian and sophomore Sam Teachout added goals as Buell tacked on a team-leading two assists. Hovivian caused a team-leading three turnovers as sophomore Henry Suarez exceled from the faceoff "x", winning seven of 13 faceoffs.

Hovivian started the scoring off of a feed from Buell, giving Jesuit a 1-0 lead with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter before Memorial tied the game with 1:21 left in the first. However, Jesuit's defense shut down the Mustangs in the second, not allowing a goal on seven shots while tallies from Jackson and Metz sent Jesuit into halftime holding a 3-1 lead.

Jesuit took control of the game in the third quarter, scoring four goals to increase the lead to six. Teachout recorded his first tally of the game at the 7:54 mark before Buell added a goal with 6:40 remaining in the quarter. Goals from Metz and Rose over the final three minutes provided the Rangers with valuable insurance goals going into the fourth. Rose scored Jesuit's lone goal of the fourth quarter with 3:37 left to complete Jesuit's scoring.

The Rangers and Eagles met earlier this season as Jesuit Dallas secured an 8-7, double overtime win over ESD to clinch the top seed in the THSLL North West Division. The winner of Saturday's semifinal will advance to either play Highland Park or Westlake in the state title game on Sunday, May 12 at 1 p.m.
