Both teams struggled from the floor in the opening quarter as the game did not see a basket scored from a Brown tip-in at the 4:13 mark to a jumper by the Lions with 50 seconds remaining in the quarter. McKinney converted a layup as the buzzer sounded to go into the second quarter leading by four. McKinney grabbed momentum back quickly in the second half with a quarter-opening dunk, sparking a 14-4 run that would cut the Jesuit lead to a point with 4:32 left in the quarter. The Rangers kept the Lions at bay until a five-point swing over the final 90 seconds of the third gave McKinney a 32-30 lead heading into the fourth.
