A hat trick by junior
Ryan Shea helped Jesuit erupt for a resounding, 5-1 win over Plano West in the team's district opener on Jan. 21 at Postell Stadium. The Rangers would fall to McKinney Boyd, 2-1, on Jan. 24 as the Broncos scored with under a minute remaining in regulation to hand Jesuit its first district loss of the season.

Shea scored in the 11th, 51st and 67th minute to pick up Jesuit's first hat trick of the season against Plano West. Senior

Plano West put the Pressure on Jesuit early, taking three shots over the first eight minutes. However, two saves by Jubin helped set the stage for the game-opening tally as Bacile passed from the center to the far side, where Shea was ready to take the shot for his first goal of the night. A long pass into the middle of the box in the 31st minute gave Sierra the opportunity to give Jesuit a 2-0 lead, sending the Rangers into halftime with the two-goal lead.

Out of the halftime break, Shea scored his second of the game in the 51st minute, taking a quick shot which deflected off the crossbar but bounced back into the net. Plano West scored its first goal of the game in the 57th minute, but Shea found Sierra in the 65th minute for Jesuit's fourth goal. Minutes later, a long pass by Kelton provided the opportunity for Shea to beat his defender to complete the hat trick, giving Jesuit a four-goal lead with 13 minutes left.

Boyd scored in the 12th minute to take an early 1-0 lead, but Sierra played a long ball to the feet of Seely off the restart, and Seely was able to beat the Broncos defender for the equalizer. The two teams continued to battle throughout the second half, but a Boyd unit that attempted eight shots in the second half compared to two by Jesuit, finally broke through with 31 seconds remaining to steal the win.
