Diver's Debut, Key Event Wins Push Jesuit to Sweep in Lewisville

Jesuit Dallas swimming and diving rose to the occasion once again on Tuesday, remaining unbeaten on the year with a sweep of Flower Mound and Plano West at LISD Westside. The Rangers upended the hosting Jaguars, 177-129, and edged a talented Plano West team, 153-143, to move to 5-0 on the year and extend the program's winning streak to 14 meets.
 
Senior Jack Young made his 2020-21 debut with a first place finish in the one-meter diving event. Young dominated the field with a 187.40 in the event, winning the event by over 80 points. Junior Phillip Thompson finished second with a 106.35 score to add points to the Ranger column and helping the Ranger diving contingent piece together an impressive season debut.
 
Three key individual swimming event wins helped the Rangers secure the sweep as senior Will McKinney won the 200 free with a time of 1:47.22 and junior Jackson Summers hit the wall in 49.49 during the 100 free to secure important points in the standings. Late in the meet, freshman William Savarese won the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.08 to put the Rangers in position for the sweep.
 
Senior Ryan Peckham and sophomore Palmer Bowman finished in second and third place, respectively, in the 500 free with Peckham leading the charge with a 4:54.73, followed by Bowman's 4:57.18. Bowman would tack on a 57.57 to finish second in the 100 back and a 1:59.77 to place second in the 200 I.M., the latter in which he was followed by a third-place 2:02.79 by William Savarese. Summers finished third in the 50 free with a 22.85 as McKinney (52.41) and senior Alexander Hung (55.80) finished second and third in the 100 fly.
 
The relay teams added a trio of second-place finishes to help propel the Blue and Gold to Tuesday night's success. The 200 medley relay team of McKinney, William Savarese, senior Alexander Hung and Summers clocked a 1:40.40 total relay time, the 200 free relay team of Hung, James Savarese, William Savarese and Peckham recorded a 1:33.18 and Peckham, Summers, James Savarese and McKinney teamed up to finish the meet-ending 400 free relay with a 3:21.49 total relay time.
 
Jesuit's regular season will continue on Oct. 20 when the Rangers travel to Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium for a tri-meet against Allen and Lovejoy. The Rangers will then wrap up the month of October on the 27th against Highland Park.
