J.J. Pearce defeated Jesuit, 60-38, in the Rangers' district opener on Wednesday at Walsh Gym. The Mustangs used a hot start and a 26-point fourth quarter to end Jesuit's four-game winning streak in Jesuit's return to action after a two-week hiatus.

Gavin Perryman led the charge for the Rangers, scoring 11 points, recording a team-leading five assists while adding a team-high four rebounds and two steals. Perryman shot 3-of-7 from three-point range and hit three of the team's five three-pointers on the day. Senior

Owen Berry scored six points each while senior
Shane Hatzmann added five points. Moore would add three rebounds while Hatzmann added a team-leading three steals.

Jesuit finished the game shooting 36.6 percent from the floor and 27.8 percent from three-point range while Pearce racked up a 59.5 shooting percentage. Pearce out-rebounded Jesuit, 24-16, and scored 21 points off of 15 Jesuit turnovers.

The Rangers will return to the court on Jan. 2, opening the 2021 portion of their schedule at 3:30 p.m. on the road against Lake Highlands. Jesuit will then play three games in five days next week beginning with a Jan. 5 matchup at Irving MacArthur H.S. The Rangers will host Nimitz at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 before battling Richardson at 1 p.m. on the road in a game originally scheduled for Dec. 22.
